The Colorado College women's tennis team defeated Division II Colorado Mesa, 4-3, Saturday afternoon in the Tigers' first win over CMU since 2009. Later in the day, the Tigers blanked CSU-Pueblo, 7-0. Both matches were played at Memorial Park.
 
In the opener, The Tigers, which lost to Colorado Mesa, 4-3, last weekend in Grand Junction, had to rally on Saturday after the Mavericks took a 1-0 lead after winning the top two doubles matches. Avery Hickman and Ally Lowe downed Catalina Ballon and Jane Steur, 6-2, at the No. 3 spot.
 
In singles, CC took a 2-1 lead with straight set wins by Aspen Young and Lowe at the Nos. 3 and 2 matches.
 
Lucia Moravek made it 3-1 with 6-4, 7-5, victory over Ballon, but CMU won at Nos. 4 and 6 to even the team match.
 
The team match came down to the No. 1 singles spot, and CC's Kala Komanduri hung in there to defeat Makenna Livingston, 6-3, 6-7(5), 1-0(9) to snap an 18-match losing streak to CMU dating back to April 10, 2009. Livingston entered the match ranked No. 67 in Division II. 
 
In the afternoon match, CC took advantage of CSU-Pueblo having only five players. The Tigers won both doubles matches while losing just three games, then swept the five singles matches in straight sets.
 
The Tigers, ranked No. 42 in Division III, return to action with their first SCAC match of the season on Friday, April 18, against Concordia (Texas), in Austin, beginning at 10 a.m. (CT).
