Shi, Lippert Each Finish Third; Smeal Breaks Javelin Record at SCAC Championships

Owen Shi and Clara Lippert each posted a third-place finish on the first day of the SCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships Friday in Seguin, Texas.
 
Shi, a sophomore, collected the first all-conference honor of his career with a personal-best toss of 47' 9.5" in the men's shot put.
 
Lippert, meanwhile, placed third in the women's long jump with a PR leap of 17' 7.5", her third all-SCAC honor in the event. Molly Vance finished 11th at 16'1".
 
Freshman Oliver Smeal broke his own school record in the men's javelin with a toss of 178' 7", good for fifth place.
 
Erin Capell also finished in fifth place in the women's shot put on Friday with a distance of 38' 0.75", while Josh Williams placed seventh in the men's long jump with a personal-best jump of 21' 3".
 
The Tigers continue the SCAC Championships on Saturday, April 26, beginning at 8 a.m. (CT).
