Tigers Fall Short Against The Fighting Scots

Two scoring runs, one early and one late, by the College of Wooster were enough to down Colorado College 11-9 on Saturday in Ohio. The Tigers overcame an early three-goal deficit and went into the fourth tied 6-6, but the Fighting Scots used a strong fourth quarter to pull ahead.

Sophomore Matt Hudson and freshman Max Vota led CC with four points each, two goals and two assists.

Wooster led 3-1 at the end of the first quarter despite Vota scoring the opening goal to give the Tigers an early lead. The Fighting Scots scored against to open up the second quarter to take a 4-1 lead.

Vota cut the advantage in half, and senior Declan Maguire scored his first goal of the season in a man-up opportunity with 9:16 left in the half to make it 4-3.

Wooster answered with its fifth goal and led 5-3 at the break. In the third, Trevor Mackles, Hudson and Will Hanson scored three consecutive goals to take a 6-5 lead with 5:36 remaining in the quarter.

The Flying Dutchman ended the CC run with the equalizer with 42 seconds remaining before the final break. CC fought back as Hudson, Lucas Smith and Brooks Power scored goals to cut the game back within two goals.

Vota led the team with eight shots and finished with three ground balls and a caused turnover.

Trevor Mackles collected six ground balls and won 10 of 14 faceoffs. Jake Moshang led the defense with three caused turnovers; it's the fifth game this season with three or more CTOs for the sophomore from Pennsylvania.
