Tigers Bounce Pioneers In Kentucky

The freshmen pair of Max Vota and Brooks Power combined for seven goals to lead the Colorado College men's lacrosse team over Transylvania 15-12 in Lexington, Ky.

Vota led the team with four goals, which tied his career high. Powers recorded his first career hat trick and finished with five shots. Sophomore Matt Hudson scored two goals, his tenth multi-goal game of the season.

"I'm so proud of our next man up mentality," head coach Mike Horowitz said. "When you play back to back, you've got to get the job done by committee, and our team supported each other for the whole 60 minutes."

CC used a strong third quarter to pull ahead of Transy after the game was within a couple of goals for the first half. The Tigers scored the opening three goals as Vota, Hudson and Roman Tacelli found the back of the net, only for the Pioneers to respond with three goals.

Andrew Tan and Power scored in the final four minutes of the first quarter to give CC a 5-3 lead going into the second.

The two teams traded goals in the second, with CC goals from Hudson, Nyarady, and Vota. The Tigers outshot the Pioneers 23-18 in the first half, but the shots on goal were tied 13-13.

CC's offense exploded in the third quarter, piling up a five-goal run out of the halftime break. Vota scored twice, along with Power, Charlie Maier, and Brayden Legette. Powers added another after Transy ended the CC run with two goals, but Powers' goal to end the third built the lead to 14-8.

Leading by six entering the fourth, the Tigers had to fight off a potential Pioneers comeback as Transy outshot CC 16-2 in the final 15 minutes. Kalan O'Hara scored his second goal of the season to give the Tigers a seven-goal cushion with 14:19 remaining. They were held scoreless for the remainder of the game while the Pioneers scored four goals, but it was too little too late as CC rolled to the 15-12 victory.

CC improved to 7-5 and got its first road win.

The road schedule continues as the Tigers travel to Endicott College next on April 17.
