No. 18 Tigers Take Down Falcons

Sofia Mancino, Grace Bean and Charlotte Iler all had hat tricks to lead the No. 18 Colorado College women's lacrosse team over UW-River Falls 16-4 in Georgetown, Texas. CC finished the weekend 3-0 and extended its winning streak to seven straight.

Mancino led the team with four goals, an assist, six shots, seven draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover.

Bean and Iler each scored three goals. Iler added an assist and finished with eight shots and a draw control. Bean had five shots, two ground balls and a caused turnover.

"We knew we were facing a fast, athletic and physical team today and focused on our pace of play," head coach Susan Stuart said. "We came out right from the opening whistle, playing at top speed to catch them off guard, and hung on to that momentum throughout:"

The Tigers scored the first four goals of the game. Iler found the back of the net 39 seconds into the opening quarter, followed by Meilani Molina scoring back-to-back goals, and Mancino scored her first with 10:34 remaining.

River Falls broke up the run with its first goal with 8:57 left. However, CC countered with another two goals by Bean and Tobin Lonergan before the end of the quarter. Up 6-1 at the start of the second quarter, the Tigers scored four more to take a 12-2 lead with 4:03 remaining. The Falcons added one more to their total, but Bean and Mancino added two more CC goals and led 12-2 at the halftime break. The Tigers outshot the Falcons 20-5 in the opening half.

River Falls scored first in the third, cutting the lead to 12-3. CC went on their third four-goal run of the day between the end of the third and the start of the fourth.  Grace Weber, Oliv Janerico, Mancino and Iler dished out the final goals for CC and rolled to the eventual 16-4 victory.

The Tigers forced 22 turnovers and held the Falcons to eight unsuccessful clears, while CC had a clearing percentage of 87.5 percent.

CC finished the weekend, outscoring its opponents 62-6. The team improved to 12-2 on the year and remain and remain undefeated (6-0) in conference play.

"Once again the offense spread out the scoring with 8 different people collecting points making it hard for River Falls to key in on any one player," Stuart said. "I was really happy with the disciplined, but stifling defense on some very talented attackers to never let them find a rhythm today.

The Tigers travel to Wisconsin next weekend for another three-game weekend starting with a game against UW-LaCrosse on April 11.
