Chris Brown, associate commissioner for governance and compliance at the Mountain West, has been named the associate athletic director for compliance, student-athlete success & operations at Colorado College.
Brown joins the CC administrative staff with extensive experience in NCAA governance and compliance at both the institutional and conference levels. At the MW, he provided executive oversight of NCAA policy compliance for 13 member institutions.
"We are thrilled to have Chris join our team," Vice President and Director of Athletics
Lesley Irvine said. "He is a respected and visionary leader who brings key experiences from his time on campus, at the NCAA and conference level. At a time where the landscape is changing rapidly, Chris understands Colorado College and how we are positioned and will be instrumental as we continue to plan and move the division forward. In this newly enhanced role I am also excited for him to lead our student success strategies as we work to provide our student-athletes access to the resources they need to be successful."
Previously, Brown served a two-year tenure as the commissioner of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association. As the 10th leader in the 136-year history of the nine-team Division III league, he ensured compliance, cost controls and revenue growth by overseeing the operational, financial and legal affairs of the conference.
Prior to his time at the MIAA, Brown was a senior associate athletics director at the University of Delaware. Before that, he was a compliance consultant at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference from 2018-22 and worked at the NCAA national office as an associate director of academic and membership affairs from 2014-20. Brown spent more than a year at Southeast Missouri State University as an assistant director of compliance.
"I'd like to thank
Lesley Irvine and the entire search committee for this incredible opportunity," Brown said. "Colorado College's dedication to academic excellence and athletic achievement creates an environment where student-athletes can truly thrive. I look forward to supporting our coaches, staff and student-athletes as we build on CC's proud tradition of success both on and off the field."
A consultant for the Knight Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics since 2020, Brown has also held a variety of teaching positions, as he has served as an adjunct professor at Boston College; a lecturer in sport management, Chief Diversity Officer and graduate teaching assistant at University of Kansas; and an adjunct instructor at Spalding University and North Central College.
The Colorado Springs, Colo., native earned a history degree from Colorado State University before adding a master's in health and human performance from Austin Peay and a doctorate in sport management from Kansas.
Brown replaces
Greg Capell, who is retiring after 21 years as the senior associate athletic director for compliance. Brown will begin his duties at CC on June 18.
