The Colorado College volleyball team split a pair of matches, including a thrilling five-set victory over 13
th-ranked UW-Platteville, on the final day of the Carthage Invitational Saturday in Kenosha, Wis.
Â
In Saturday's opener,
Camille Sherrill collected a career-high 29 kills and posted a .318 hitting percentage in leading the Tigers to their fifth straight win. Her 29 kills ties for No. 8 on CC's career list for most in one match and are the most in a match by a Tiger since Abbe Holtze had 29 vs. Colorado Christian on Nov. 4, 2014.Â
Â
Brooke Brilliant and
Carolyn Dormady followed with 14 and 12 kills, respectively, while
Annie Joo dished out a career-best 32 kills and
Camden Goodman had 26.
Â
After dropping the first set, 25-18, the Tigers captured the next two sets, 25-16, 25-22. In the fourth set, the Tigers won three straight points late in the set to cut a deficit from 24-20 to 24-23, but a service error gave UW-Platteville the set.
Â
In the deciding fifth set, CC jumped out to an 11-7 lead, but the Pioneers rallied to tie it up at 13-all. Sherrill closed out the match with a pair of kills to give CC a victory over its highest-ranked opponent since defeating #11 Transylvania in the 2024 Pikes Peak Challenge.
Â
The Tigers had to turn around and face Carthage immediately after the victory, and fell to the Firebirds in three sets, 25-16, 25-22, 25-23.
Â
Sherrill once again led the team, this time with 11 kills, while Goodman had 14 assists and
Meghan Gannon collected 18 digs.
"This was a great trip for us," head coach
Sharon Dingman said. "Beating Concordia and UW-Platteville was important because we saw how much grit and fight we have. Regardless of the score, this team believes they can win - that they can overcome any deficit. Playing Carthage 40 minutes after our 5-set win was a huge challenge. I was proud of our effort."
Â
The Tigers (7-3) open SCAC play with matches against Texas Lutheran in Seguin, Texas, on Friday, Sept. 19, at 3 p.m. CT, and Concordia (Texas) in Austin on Saturday, Sept. 20 at noon CT. Â
