Tigers Roar Past The Eagles, Remain Unbeaten In SCAC Play

Colorado College rolled to a 75–51 road win over the University of the Ozarks on Saturday afternoon at Mabee Gymnasium, extending its unbeaten conference start and behind a career performance from freshman Rayna Welsch. The Tigers have now won six-straight games.

Welsch scored a career-high 26 points on 10-of-14 shooting and went 6-for-7 at the free-throw line to pace CC, which shot 46.0 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point range. The Tigers opened the game on a 10–0 run, built a 28–10 advantage after one quarter, and took a commanding 45–19 lead into halftime.

Colorado College controlled the game on both ends, finishing with a 36–35 edge in rebounds and forcing 14 Ozarks turnovers, which the Tigers turned into 15 points. CC also held a decisive 44–16 advantage in points in the paint and a 15–6 edge in fast-break points, while outscoring the Eagles 26–13 off the bench.

Defensively, the Tigers limited Ozarks to 32.7 percent shooting for the game and just 25.0 percent in the opening quarter. CC recorded nine steals and five blocks, disrupting the Eagles' offensive rhythm throughout.

Illiana Greene added 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting, while Kayla Mackel and JuJu Garcia chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively. Naiya Kurnik led the team on the glass with six rebounds, and Andie Will and Isa Nelson each dished out four assists.

Lila Hartness led Ozarks with 18 points, but no other Eagle reached double figures.

With the win, CC improved to 11–4 overall and 6–0 in SCAC, while Ozarks dropped to 5–10 and 0–6. The Tigers return to Reid Arena next Friday, Jan. 23 to host McMurry University.
