CC Wins Its Eighth Straight Game, Downing Schreiner

Colorado College continued its roll with a 70–41 win over Schreiner on Saturday afternoon at Reid Arena, extending its winning streak to eight games and remaining unbeaten in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play at 8–0.

The Tigers set the tone immediately, jumping out to a 23–9 lead after the first quarter and never allowing the Mountaineers to get closer than 14 the rest of the way. CC shot 66.7 percent in the opening period and followed with a 22–10 second quarter to take a commanding 45–19 advantage into halftime.

CC controlled the paint and the glass throughout, finishing with a 52–37 rebounding edge and a 40–16 advantage in points in the paint. The Tigers also forced 12 Schreiner turnovers and turned them into eight fast-break points, while holding the Mountaineers to 21.7 percent shooting for the game.

Junior Isa Nelson led a balanced CC attack with 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting, while junior Naiya Kurnik posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Kayla Mackel, freshman Rayna Welsch and senior Andie Will each added six points.

The CC bench played a major role in the win, outscoring Schreiner's reserves 31–17. Sophomore Addie Meyer anchored that effort with a career-high 13 rebounds to go with five points, while freshman Iliana Greene contributed six points, four assists and two steals. Junior JuJu Garcia added five points and four assists in limited minutes, and sophomore Payton Gates chipped in seven points and five rebounds as the Tigers' depth helped stretch the margin throughout the second half. All 12 players scored points for CC.

The Tigers maintained control after halftime, pushing the lead to as many as 33 and limiting Schreiner to 11 points in each of the final two quarters.

With the win, CC improved to 13–4 overall and 8–0 in SCAC play, staying perfect in conference action and claiming the first-place sole spot in the Gold Division.
