Tigers Prepare For Important Weekend In Texas

Colorado College continues SCAC play on the road this weekend, opening the Texas trip Friday, Jan. 30, at Concordia University Texas at 6:30 p.m. MT before closing the weekend Saturday, Jan. 31, at Texas Lutheran at 5 p.m. MT.

The Tigers enter the weekend 13–4 overall and a perfect 8–0 in SCAC play, riding an eight-game winning streak.

Last Time Out
CC extended its winning streak to eight games with a home victory over Schreiner on Jan. 25, using a balanced offensive effort and strong defensive pressure to pull away from the Mountaineers. Freshman Rayna Welsch and senior Kayla Mackel led the Tigers in scoring, while senior Andie Will and junior Isa Nelson helped set the tempo and facilitate the offense.

At the Helm
Mackel and Welsch continue to anchor the Tigers offensively, averaging 14.3 and 13.8 points per game, respectively. Welsch has been one of the most efficient players in the league, shooting 57.8 percent from the field and pulling down 6.3 rebounds per contest. Nelson averages 29.1 minutes per game and has knocked down 25 three-pointers, while junior JuJu Garcia leads the team with 26 made threes and is shooting 90 percent from the free-throw line. Defensively, CC has held opponents to 56.5 points per game while out-rebounding them 41.0 to 37.2 on average.

Scouting the Opposition
Concordia (TX) enters Friday's contest with a 5–11 overall record and is led by Shanna Brown, who averages 17.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Taysie Trejo adds 13.4 points per contest, and the Tornadoes look to generate offense through guard play and transition opportunities while averaging just over 63 points per game as a team.

TLU, Saturday's opponent, is among the top teams in the conference with a 14–2 overall record and strong efficiency on both ends of the floor. The Bulldogs average more than 75 points per game while allowing just over 51, and feature multiple double-figure scorers, including Presley Rowe (16.3 ppg), Taylor Hanson (14.0 ppg), and Skylar McKinstry (12.5 ppg). TLU shoots better than 45 percent from the field and nearly 38 percent from three-point range. The Bulldogs and Tigers are the lone teams in the conference that have yet to lose a conference game.
