Colorado College held off a late push to defeat McMurry 72-69 on Friday evening at Kimbrell Arena.
CC (9-11, 7-4 SCAC) led 30-28 at halftime before using a decisive stretch midway through the second half to create separation. The Tigers built their largest lead of the night, 55-40, with 9:02 remaining following a 16-0 scoring run.
McMurry (8-12, 3-8 SCAC) rallied in the final minutes, trimming the deficit to two in the closing seconds. CC secured the win at the free-throw line, converting 18-of-26 attempts overall and knocking down 6-of-6 in the final nine seconds.
Senior Asher Nofziger led CC with 21 points and nine rebounds, going 8-for-15 from the field and 5-for-7 at the line. Junior Christian Drummond added 12 points and six rebounds, while freshman Ryan Kranz scored 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting. Junior Ty Hendler finished with 10 points and four assists.
CC shot 46.4 percent (26-56) from the field compared to 36.9 percent (24-65) for McMurry. The Tigers scored 38 points in the paint and held a 40-36 rebounding advantage. CC also produced 11 points off turnovers and limited the War Hawks to 36.9 percent shooting overall.
McMurry made 10 three-pointers, but CC converted 24 two-point field goals and maintained control inside throughout the second half.
CC returns to action on Sunday at Schreiner University at 11 a.m. MT.
