No. 21 Tigers Fall To No. 13 Pomona-Pitzer

No. 21 Colorado College fell to No. 13 Pomona-Pitzer, 13–6, on Friday evening in a non-conference matchup at in Clarmemont, Calif. 

Pomona-Pitzer used a strong second half to pull away after the two teams battled through a tight opening half.

CC struck first midway through the opening quarter when sophomore Charlotte Iler finished a feed from junior Sofia Mancino to tie the game at 1-1. Iler added another goal later in the period on a free-position opportunity, while Mancino scored on a free-position shot to give CC a 3-2 lead late in the first quarter.

The Sagehens responded early in the second quarter to even the score, but sophomore Grace Weber answered with a free-position goal with 2:22 remaining in the half to tie the game at 4-4. Pomona-Pitzer collected one more goal and led 5-4 at the break. 

Pomona-Pitzer seized control in the third quarter, scoring three goals in a three-minute stretch to build an 8-4 advantage. Pomona-Pitzer added five more goals in the fourth quarter to extend its lead before CC closed the scoring with a pair of late tallies.

Mancino led the Tigers offensively with four points on three goals and one assist. Iler added two goals, while Weber also found the back of the net. Senior Beatrix Nace recorded an assist, and CC finished with six total goals on 15 shots.

Defensively, sophomore Meilani Molina led the Tigers with four ground balls and three draw controls, while senior Riley Sterling added three ground balls. Junior Cassidy Schnaufer made 11 saves in goal for CC.

Pomona-Pitzer outshot the Tigers 31-15 and held a 16-6 advantage in draw controls, helping the Sagehens control possession throughout much of the second half.

Colorado College falls to 3-1 overall and will continue its Southern California road trip on Sunday against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
