Colorado College fell to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 17-15, Sunday afternoon in the final game of its Southern California road trip.
CMS jumped out to an early lead, scoring four of the first five goals to take a 4-1 advantage midway through the opening quarter. Sophomore Charlotte Iler put CC on the board with a man-down goal before adding a free-position tally later in the quarter to cut the deficit to 4-2 after the first period.
The Tigers battled back in the second quarter. Junior Maddie Jenks scored back-to-back goals, the second coming off an assist from sophomore Ella Roe, to tie the game at 4-4 midway through the frame. CMS responded with two late goals to take a 6-4 lead into halftime.
After CMS extended its lead early in the third quarter, CC mounted another push. Senior Riley Sterling converted a free-position opportunity before sophomore Grace Bean and junior Sofia Mancino scored back-to-back goals to tie the game at 7-7.
CMS answered with a decisive run late in the third quarter, scoring five goals during a six-minute stretch to build a 13-9 lead heading into the final period.
The Tigers continued to fight in the fourth quarter. Junior Meilani Molina scored on a free-position shot, and Bean and Jenks added goals as CC trimmed the deficit to two late in the game. Iler capped the scoring with a pair of goals in the final minutes, finishing with a team-high five goals.
Iler led CC with six points on five goals and one assist. Jenks and Sterling each recorded hat tricks, both the career first for the freshman and sophomore.  Bean added two goals and an assist. Mancino finished with three points on a goal and two assists.
Senior Cassidy Schnaufer made 11 saves in goal for the Tigers.
CMS held advantages in shots (38-27) and draw controls (28-7), helping the Athenas maintain possession throughout much of the contest.
CC finished with 15 goals on 27 shots and went 6-for-8 on free-position opportunities.
