No. 22 Tigers Complete Comeback At Union, Win In Double OT

Colorado College stormed back with five unanswered goals, capped by a double-overtime winner, to defeat Union College, 12-11, Thursday night in a thriller.

Trailing 11-7 with just over eight minutes remaining in regulation, the Tigers mounted a furious comeback. Freshman Maddie Jenks sparked the rally with a goal at the 8:20 mark, before junior Sofia Mancino added two goals during the stretch. Freshman Elsa Greene scored to pull CC within one, and Mancino tied the game with 1:25 remaining to force overtime.

After a scoreless first overtime period, junior Meghan Collins delivered the game-winner 2:02 into the second overtime. After a free-position shot by Jenks was saved, Collins collected the ground ball and found the back of the net, finishing off the comeback and securing the victory.

Union controlled much of the early action, using a 4-0 run in the second quarter to take a 6-2 lead. CC responded late in the half with goals from Greene and Mancino to cut the deficit to 6-4 at the break.

The Tigers continued to chip away in the third quarter, with sophomore Charlotte Iler and Mancino each finding the back of the net to keep CC within striking distance. Union extended its lead back to four early in the fourth quarter before CC's late surge flipped the game.

Mancino led CC with five points on four goals and one assist, while Iler added three points on two goals and one assist. Greene recorded two goals, and Jenks contributed a goal and two assists. Collins' lone goal proved to be the difference.

Senior Cassidy Schnaufer played the full game in goal, making five saves to earn the win.

The Tigers' offensive pressure steadily built throughout the game, outshooting Union 31-27, including a 17-11 advantage in the second half and overtime periods. The Tigers were especially aggressive in the fourth quarter and extra sessions, holding Union scoreless over the final 17-plus minutes while generating multiple scoring chances. CC also matched Union on the ground with 22 ground balls apiece, with sophomore Elsa Greene and junior Sofia Mancino each collecting four.

The Tigers controlled key moments late, capitalizing on free-position opportunities by going 3-for-9, while holding Union scoreless on all four of its attempts. CC also finished with 12 draw controls, including several critical possessions during the comeback stretch.

CC will wrap up it's east-coast trip on Sunday at No. 3 Tufts.
