CC Wins Its Sixth Straight, Downs Calvin

Colorado College extended its winning streak to six games Saturday afternoon with a 15-7 victory over Calvin University.

The Tigers controlled the game from the start, scoring five goals in the first quarter to seize early momentum. Junior Aidan Niklaus opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game, and senior Roman Tacelli followed shortly after to give CC a quick 2-0 advantage.

Senior Charlie Maier pushed the lead to three before junior Matt Hudson scored off an assist from sophomore Logan Chapman to make it 4-0 midway through the first quarter. Senior Luke Smith added another tally late in the period as CC carried a 5-1 lead after the opening frame.

The Tigers continued to build their advantage in the second quarter. Tacelli scored his second goal of the afternoon, and Hudson found the back of the net three times during a six-minute stretch to help CC extend its lead to 9-2 at halftime.

Hudson led all scorers with a season-high five goals and one assist. Niklaus added five points on two goals and three assists, while Tacelli finished with two goals. Junior Wyatt Furda recorded a goal and two assists, and junior Gavin Pope added three points on a goal and two assists. Sophomore Liam Goodwin and Smith each contributed a goal and an assist.

CC's defense was especially strong early, limiting Calvin to just two goals in the first half. Senior Robert Spence anchored the defensive effort with 17 saves in goal, a new career-high. 

The Tigers dominated the ground ball battle 41-18 and outshot Calvin 50-42 while also winning 15 of 26 faceoffs.

CC also saw a milestone moment late in the fourth quarter when senior Tim Browne scored the first goal of his collegiate career to cap the scoring.

With the win, CC improves to 6-1 on the season and extends its longest winning streak since 2023. The Tigers are on the road next week at Salisbury on Wednesday, March. 18.
