Colorado College saw its six-game winning streak come to an end Wednesday evening with a 21-5 loss to No. 5 Salisbury.
Salisbury took control early and never looked back, scoring seven goals in the opening quarter to build a 7-1 lead. Junior Aidan Niklaus provided the lone goal for CC in the first period, scoring just over two minutes into the game to give the Tigers an early 1-0 advantage before the hosts responded with seven unanswered.
The momentum continued into the second quarter, where Salisbury added nine more goals to extend its lead to 16-2 at halftime. Senior Matt Hudson and sophomore Matthew Collina accounted for CC's two goals in the opening half.
CC showed more fight in the second half, outscoring Salisbury 3-2 in the fourth quarter. Hudson added his second goal of the game late, while senior Gavin Pope and senior Aidan Niklaus also found the back of the net after the break.
Hudson led the Tigers with two goals, while Niklaus and Pope each added a goal and an assist. Collina also scored for CC to round out the scoring.
Defensively, senior Robert Spence recorded 10 saves in 45 minutes of action before junior Sam Rich played the final 15 minutes in goal.
Salisbury held advantages across the board, including shots (47-28) and ground balls (48-36), while also winning the faceoff battle 20-9 to control possession throughout the contest .
Despite the result, CC moves to 6-2 on the season and will look to bounce back on Saturday at DeSales.Â
