The Colorado College women's tennis team saw its five-match winning streak come to an end Tuesday evening with a 5-2 loss to 12
th-ranked Wellesley College in San Antonio, Texas.
CC, ranked 36
th in the latest ITA Division III poll, won the No. 2 doubles match, but lost the other two as Trinity jumped out to a 1-0 lead. After Eva Kovachev and Allison Vu defeated
Lindsay Popeo and
Avery Hickman, 6-0, at the No. 3 match,
Kala Komanduri and
Ally Lowe defeated Lauen Tim and Katie Schmidt, 6-3. The point came down to the No. 1 match, where
Aspen Young and
Lucia Moravek fell, 7-6(6), to Rosabella Andrade and Trinity Levy.
Colorado College tried to rally in singles play, but managed just two victories. Young won a hard-fought match over Kovachev, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, at the top spot, while Moravek downed Schmidt, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 5 spot. Trinity won the other four matches in straight sets.
Colorado College (7-3) return to action on Thursday, March 19, against 31
st-ranked Cal Tech in Pasadena, Calif., beginning at 3 p.m. (PT).
