Colorado College picked up a strong neutral-site win on Saturday, defeating Sewanee, 13-6 in Georgetown, Texas
CC was led by junior Matt Hudson, who posted a game-high seven points on four goals and three assists, while junior Nick Johnson added three points on two goals and an assist. Sophomore Matthew Collina also scored twice as the Tigers improved to 8-2 on the season.
After a tight opening quarter, the Tigers took control in the second, outscoring Sewanee 6-1 to build an 8-2 halftime lead. Johnson and Hudson each scored twice in the period, while goals from junior Wyatt Furda, senior Luke Smith, and Collina helped fuel the run.
Sewanee responded with a three-goal stretch early in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 8-5, but CC answered immediately. Sophomore Brooks Power converted on a man-up opportunity, and Hudson followed with back-to-back goals to push the lead back to six.
The Tigers closed things out in the fourth with goals from sophomore Logan Chapman and sophomore Liam Goodwin to seal the victory.
CC controlled the game statistically, outshooting Sewanee 52-33 and holding a commanding 62-32 advantage in ground balls. The Tigers also went 20-for-23 on clears and capitalized on extra-man opportunities, going 2-for-6 while holding Sewanee scoreless on seven chances.
Defensively, senior Robert Spence made 14 saves in goal, while CC forced 26 Sewanee turnovers and totaled 13 caused turnovers. Senior Griffin Cusack led the way with four caused turnovers, and freshman Henry Lord added three.
CC will close out the weekend on Sunday against Southwestern University at noon MT.Â
