Tigers Dominate Pirates To Sweep Texas Road Trip

Colorado College used a dominant first half and a seven-goal third quarter to cruise past Southwestern, 18-5, on Sunday afternoon in Georgetown, Texas. 

The Tigers improved to 9-2 on the season, jumping out to a 4-1 lead after the opening quarter and extending the advantage to 8-2 at halftime before breaking the game open in the third.

Junior Matt Hudson led the offensive attack with four goals, while senior Charlie Faldi matched him with four goals of his own, including three in the second half. Junior Nick Johnson paced the Tigers with six points on two goals and four assists.

CC showcased its depth offensively with nine different goal scorers. Sophomore Liam Goodwin added two goals, while freshman Lucas Obringer recorded three points on two goals and an assist, a career-high for the Colorado Springs native. 

Jake Moshang gathered four ground balls which brought his career total to 103. That makes him tied 20th this era (2000-present) in career ground balls. 

The Tigers controlled possession throughout, winning 20-of-26 faceoffs behind senior Trevor Mackles, who went 13-for-14 at the X, and adding 56 ground balls compared to Southwestern's 33.

Defensively, CC held Southwestern to just five goals on 32 shots and limited scoring opportunities during a decisive third quarter where CC outscored the Pirates 7-1.

In goal, senior Robert Spence earned the win with eight saves over 40 minutes, while sophomore Jackson Lesher and freshman Sam Rich combined for six saves in relief.

Colorado College finished with a 53-32 advantage in shots and converted both of its extra-man opportunities.
