Hudson & Niklaus Pace Tigers Past Leopards

Junior Matt Hudson recorded a season-high four goals and six points to lead Colorado College to a 14-8 victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon at Washburn Field.

With the win, CC improved to 4-1 on the season and extended its winning streak to four games.

Hudson paced the Tigers offensively with four goals and two assists, while junior Aidan Niklaus matched the six-point performance with three goals and three assists. Junior Gavin Pope added a goal and an assist, and sophomore Matthew Collina, senior Luke Smith, junior Logan Chapman, sophomore Liam Goodwin and junior Jake Moshang each scored once for CC.

Colorado College responded after Wentworth opened the scoring early in the first quarter. Pope evened the contest with an assist from Niklaus before goals from Collina and Niklaus helped the Tigers close the period with a 3-2 lead.

CC extended the advantage in the second quarter behind Hudson, who scored twice during a four-goal stretch that helped the Tigers build a 7-3 lead at halftime.

Wentworth pushed back in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 8-6, but CC answered immediately when senior Trevor Mackles won the ensuing faceoff and scored seconds later to halt the Leopards' momentum.

The Tigers took control in the fourth quarter with a five-goal run highlighted by goals from Niklaus, Smith and Hudson to extend the lead to 13-6 and put the game out of reach.

Mackles dominated at the faceoff X, winning 14-of-21 draws to help CC control possession throughout the afternoon. The Tigers also held a 38-27 advantage in ground balls in the gritty all-around performance.

Senior Robert Spence earned the win in goal, recording 14 saves while holding Wentworth to eight goals.

CC had 10 different players record a point in the victory as the Tigers continued their strong stretch during the four-game winning streak.
