Tigers Rally to Upset 16th-Ranked UW-Whitewater

CC extends winning streak to seven

Camille Sherrill led all players with a season-high 18 kills to pace the Colorado College volleyball team to a four-set upset victory over 16th-ranked UW-Whitewater Saturday in the final match of the Calvin Invitational in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The Tigers rallied after losing the first set to beat the Warhawks 16-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-18, extending their winning streak to seven and improving to 8-1 this season. It is CC's highest-ranked win since defeating No. 13 UW-Platteville last season.

Sherrill, a senior from Missoula, Mt., added 11 digs, three service aces and a block, while hitting at a .262 pace. Fellow senior Brooke Brilliant had 15 kills and led the team with a .355 hitting percentage, just ahead of senior teammate Julia Reusch's .353 percentage with seven kills and just one error.

Senior Meghan Gannon collected a team-high 17 digs and six assists, while senior Annie Joo had a match-high 41 assists along with 13 digs, five kills and an ace. Sophomore Delaney Dorscht also filled the box score with 10 digs, five kills, three blocks and two aces.

"Going 3-0 against some nationally-ranked competition is a tremendous accomplishment for this group," interim head coach Nikki Binetti said. "I am most proud of the way they competed, stayed together, and continued to believe in each other throughout the weekend. We challenged ourselves against some really strong teams and our players responded with confidence, toughness, and discipline. It was a great weekend for our program, but we know there's still a lot of work ahead."

The Tigers open play in the SCAC next Saturday, Sept. 26, against Texas Lutheran in Seguin, Texas, beginning at 12 pm CT.
