The Colorado College women's tennis team split a pair of dual matches against Division II teams Saturday, rallying to defeat Fort Hays State, 4-3, before falling to Colorado Mesa, 5-2, at Memorial Park.
 
In the opener, CC took a 1-0 lead by winning two of the three doubles matches. Freshmen Sabrina Larsen and Maddie Silviera opened with 6-4 victory over Madeline Deters and Janae Montoya at the No. 3 position. After FHSU won the No. 2 match, junior Aspen Young and freshman Natalie Anaya rallied from a 6-2 deficit in the tiebreak to win the final six points and defeat Avery Pulido and Sandra Rodriguez, 7-6(6), at the No. 1 spot to clinch the doubles point.
 
Fort Hays State won the first three singles matches off the court at Nos. 4, 5 and 6 to take a 3-1 lead, but CC would not lay down.
 
Young started the comeback with a 6-4, 6-1, victory over Charlie Stirling at the top spot, then junior Ally Lowe evened the match at 3-3 by coming from behind to beat Bethan Gil, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0(2) to win the No. 2 match.
 
Anaya, playing her first dual match at CC, clinched the team match with an exciting 4-6, 6-2, 1-0(4) win over Rodriguez at No. 3.
 
In the nightcap, Colorado Mesa swept the doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. The Mavericks then won the first two matches off the court before Lowe captured the No. 2 match for CC, defeating Eva Muraske, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0(3), at the No. 2 position.
 
Sofia Reuter won the No. 6 match, 6-2, 0-2, 1-0(12), then Anaya battled Valentina Gonzalez at the No. 3 spot, but fell, 5-7, 6-3, 1-0(5), to clinch the match for Mesa.
 
The Tigers return to action at the ITA West Regionals in Claremont, Calif., Oct 2-4.
