Tigers try to rev up for C-USA playoffs

Match at UTEP will conclude regular season

View complete press release »

Still clinging to a mathematical chance to finish as a league co-champion, Colorado College concludes its 2008 regular season this week with another crucial Conference USA match on the road.

The Tigers travel to El Paso, Texas, where they will take on UTEP in a 7 p.m. (MT) contest on Friday. Both teams already have clinched berths in the C-USA post-season tournament, to be held next week at Rice University in Houston.

CC, 12-5-2 overall and 6-3-1 in league play, currently is fourth but just three points out of first in the league standings. If C-USA co-leaders East Carolina and Memphis both were to lose their respective finales with Marshall and UAB this week, and third-place UCF fall to or tie with Southern Miss, a victory over UTEP would give Colorado College a three-way share of the regular-season title.

UTEP, meanwhile, is 12-6-1 overall and 5-4-1 in conference play. The Miners currently are seventh in the league standings, but could potentially finish in a tie with Colorado College for fourth place.

Friday's game marks the fifth all-time meeting between the Tigers and Miners, who own a 3-1 advantage in the rivalry. CC's only victory, a 2-1 overtime decision, came in the Conference USA quarterfinals two years ago. The Miners more than evened the count last fall with a 3-2 double-overtime triumph in the league quarterfinals after winning earlier by the same score at Stewart Field.
