Tameka Sumter scored her ninth goal of the season midway through the second half on Friday night, lifting UTEP to a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Colorado College in their Conference USA regular-season finale at University Field in El Paso, Texas.
CC, which dropped to 12-6-2 overall, finishes tied for fourth with the Miners in the C-USA standings and will face them again in the quarterfinals of the league's post-season tournament next Wednesday at Rice University in Houston.
It is the third consecutive year the teams, both 6-4-1 in conference play, will have met in the first round of the playoffs. Each has one once.
Kelly LaVoie, who launched seven of Colorado College's 11 shots in the first half, gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead when she converted on a rebound moments after Miners keeper Sara Kaltwasser stopped a shot by
Kelsey Wise.
Jordan Freiberg pulled UTEP even just 2:54 into the second half, as the Miners cashed in on one of their six corner kicks in the contest.
Five yellow cards were issued in the match, including three against the Tigers, who were held without a shot on goal after the intermission.
