Sophomore guard
Nick Rose posted career highs of 21 points and eight rebounds, but it wasn't enough to lift Colorado College past No. 1 Washington University.
Tournament MVP Aaron Thompson scored 31 points to lead the Bears to an 82-64 victory over the Tigers in the championship game of the 2008 CC Tip-Off Classic on Sunday afternoon.
Thompson buried five of nine three-point attempts and made six of eight shots from inside the arc. He scored 19 of his points in the first half, including 13 of the Bears' first 15 points, as Wash U. built a 42-27 lead at the break.
The lead fluctuated around the 15-point level until Rose scored eight points during a 12-4 run that helped the Tigers cut their deficit to 65-56 with 6:21 remaining in the game. But that was as close as CC would get.
Colorado College trailed by only 10 points after Rose converted on a fast break with 3:43 to play, but CC missed its final four shots while the Bears got a final three-point bucket from Thompson and made five of six free throw attempts.
