Just when Colorado College needed him the most,
Richard Bachman came through.
The sophomore goaltender stopped all 21 shots he faced on Sunday, backstopping the desperate Tigers to a 1-0 victory over the University of Minnesota that salvaged a split of their two-game WCHA series at Mariucci Arena.
It was Bachman's third shutout of the season and the seventh of his collegiate career. It also was CC's first whitewashing of the Gophers in Minneapolis since Dec. 17, 1955.
A shorthanded goal at 15:02 of the first period by junior winger
Addison DeBoer proved to be the difference as Colorado College snapped a three-game winless skid and climbed into a third-place tie with the University of Wisconsin in the league standings.
At 10-6-4 overall and 7-5-2 in WCHA play, good for 16 points, the Tigers are three points behind first-place University of Denver at the season's halfway point.
Junior center
Andreas Vlassopoulos set up DeBoer's tally during Minnesota's third power play of the opening frame, sliding the puck through the goal mouth from the left side after outdueling a pair of UM players deep in the zone.
The No. 2-ranked and second-place Gophers, who now have won only one of their last five outings, dropped to 8-3-5 overall and 7-2-3 in the WCHA.
