Alexa Dougherty

Sophomore midfielder Kristin Rider scored on a free-position shot with 25 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Colorado College women's lacrosse team an 18-17 victory in overtime against Regis University on Thursday night in Denver.

The Tigers improved to 10-3 to reach double-digit victories for the fifth consecutive season. RU dropped to 1-11

The Rangers led 14-6 after Becca Gargaro converted on a free-position shot with 14:49 remaining in the game, but then watched as the Tigers mounted another of their patented comebacks.

Kristin Rider scored twice during a 5-0 run that saw Colorado College trim its deficit to 14-11 with 8:20 to play in the second half. The Tigers scored three times in 42 seconds on goals by Rider, Ginny Rider and Alexa Dougherty.

After Christina Johnson put Regis ahead 15-11 with 5:15 left in the game, Dougherty scored twice to pull the Tigers to within two goals with 3:29 to go.

Gargaro gave the Rangers an insurance goal with 2:13 to go, but CC was not finished. Lindsay Chan and Kristin Rider scored 43 seconds apart to pull the Tigers to within a goal, and Dougherty tied the game with only 17 seconds remaining on a feed from Chan.

Colorado College took its first lead of the game when Ali Zarlengo scored 35 seconds into the six-minute overtime, but Gunlickson tied the game for Regis with 56 seconds to play. But after Brittany Roy won the last of the Tigers' 24 draw controls, Kristin Rider scored the game winner with 25 seconds left to give CC the victory.

Dougherty paced the Tiger attack with a career-high six goals, while Kristin Rider had career highs of five goals and seven points. Chan and Ginny Rider each finished with two goals and an assist.

Gunlickson had seven goals and an assist to lead the Rangers. Gargaro finished with four goals, while Lillian Yanni added three.

Jess Van Doren made one of her six saves in overtime to improve to 8-2 for the year in goal. Brittany Farniok stopped 13 shots for RU.

Regis scored eight of its goals on free-position shots, including six in the first half when the Rangers built a 10-5 lead.

The eight-goal deficit was the second-most CC has overcome in a victory. In an NCAA regional semifinal game against Nazareth College, the Tigers trailed 9-0 in the first half before winning in double overtime to break their own postseason record of six set in 2004.

Earlier this season, Colorado College trailed 6-0 before coming from behind to defeat Goucher College, 15-12.

The Tigers will play an exhibition game against the University of Colorado club team on May 2. The field for the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament will be announced on Sunday, May 4.
