Tigers fall to red-hot Kangaroos

By all accounts, Colorado College played an exceptional road game on Saturday at Austin College.

The Tigers had four players finish with double-figure points, made 22 of 29 free throws and forced 19 turnovers. Unfortunately, the Kangaroos shot .682 from the field in the second half and pulled away for an 80-72 victory.

CC dropped to 2-9 overall and 1-2 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. AC improved to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in the SCAC.

Brady Ohlsen gave Colorado College a 51-50 lead with 14:25 remaining in the game, but Austin made seven of 10 shots over the next 8:03 and built a 13-point advantage with 6:22 to play.

The Tigers cut their deficit to 76-70 on a Michael Goforth free throw with 1:15 remaining, but that was as close as they would get.

During the first 25 minutes, neither team led by more than six points. Nick Rose gave CC a 22-16 lead when he knocked down a three-point shot midway through the first half, but the 'Roos countered with a 15-4 run to build a 31-26 lead after 15 minutes.

The Tigers responded with a 16-9 run and took a 42-20 lead into the break after Ohlsen converted on a pair of free throws with 50 seconds remaining in the opening frame.

Rose and Lance Jacobs scored 18 points apiece to pace CC. Ohlsen finished with 13 points, while Jarrell Sweet added 11 points and led the Tigers with seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Chris Sturtevant made seven of nine shots from the floor and led Austin College with 18 points. Kola Alade scored 15, while Mark Foster added 13.

The 'Roos .566 from the field for the game, which included a .682 clip in the second half when they made 15 off 22 shots from the floor.

Colorado College will travel to Hendrix College and Millsaps College for conference games next Friday and Sunday, respectively.
