Tigers fall to Air Force in season opener

Colorado College opened its season at Air Force on Saturday, and despite losing all seven points, the experience of playing Division I opponents should pay dividends throughout the 2009 season.

Jordan Evans had the Tigers' best showing, dropping a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Allie Chermel at No. 1 singles.

The No. 2 singles match was nearly as good, with Kelsey Smith falling 6-2, 6-1 to Christen Monreal.

A pair of first-year players - Deanna Thirkell and Vita Emery - made their collegiate debuts at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

Evans and Britt Swenson came out on the short end of an 8-2 score at No. 1 doubles

The Falcons improved to 3-5.

Colorado College will return to action on Feb. 18 when the Tigers play host to Division II Metropolitan State College.
