The weather warmed up a bit on Sunday and so did Trinity University's bats.
The visitors from San Antonio, Texas, banged out 34 hits, including 11 for extra bases, in a 14-1, 11-8 doubleheader sweep of Colorado College that gave them three victories in four games against CC for the weekend.
The teams played all four Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference outings at Doherty High School in northeast Colorado Springs.
A pair of TU seniors – shortstop Jamie Williams and center fielder Kate Wright – went 6-for-9 in Sunday's twinbill, scoring 10 runs and knocking in nine more between them. Williams belted a solo home run in the opener, when CC managed only two hits in five innings off Trinity starter Brittany Losey, who also earned a relief victory in the nightcap. Wright, along with teammates
Alexa Calderon and Karen McPherson, walloped round-trippers to highlight the 11-8 triumph.
Sophomore
Alyssa Kallweit, who knocked in Colorado College's only run with a sacrifice fly in Game 1, belted her second homer of the weekend in the fifth inning of the later contest. Kallweit went 3-for-5 for the afternoon, with three runs scored and an RBI in each game to give her a total of seven for the weekend. She batted .545 (6-for-11) overall in the four outings.
CC's
Heidi Shannon and
Erica VanHoosen rapped three hits apiece in Game 2, with Van Hoosen also finishing with three runs batted in.
The Tigers dropped to 4-13 overall and 1-7 in the SCAC. Trinity, meanwhile, improved to 8-16 overall and 6-2 in league play.
