Ohlsen shines, but CC falls at Trinity

Brady Ohlsen scored 17 points, but Colorado College suffered its first loss in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a 60-50 setback at Trinity University on Sunday afternoon.

CC slipped to 7-4 overall and 3-1 in league play. Despite the loss, Colorado College is still tied with Austin College atop the Western Division standings with a 3-1 record. TU improved to 4-7 overall and 1-2 in the SCAC.

Trinity held CC to a season-low 50 points, an effort that was made significantly easier due to the foul trouble that plagued leading scorer Nick Rose.

Rose, who entered the game averaging 21.6 points per game, went to the bench after picking up his third foul with 3:36 remaining in the first half, and eventually fouled out with 6:08 to play in the game. He finished with eight points in 24 minutes.

Still, Colorado College trailed 45-42 when Ryan Harty buried a three-pointer with 5:25 to play, but TU scored the next six points to re-gain the momentum.

Luke Caldarera scored six of his team-high 16 points during the final five minutes to help Trinity maintain its lead. He completed the double-double with a game-high 14 rebounds.

Jeremiah Waters knocked down three of his four three-point baskets during the opening 20 minutes to keep CC in the game. Ohlsen kept Colorado College within striking distance by scoring 10 points in the second frame.

Colorado College trailed 16-14 after Ohlsen scored with 7:55 remaining in the first half, but with Rose and Jarrell Sweet on the bench after being saddled with three fouls, CC scored just five points the rest of the way as TU built a 26-19 lead after 20 minutes.

Peter Garatoni and Ryan Beall scored 10 points apiece for Trinity.

Colorado College plays host to Austin College on Saturday.
