Tigers hoping for their shot

CC needs some help in playoff chase

View complete weekly press release »

Its post-season aspirations still alive, Colorado College hopes to head into Friday's regular-season finale against UTEP with a chance to secure a berth in the Conference USA playoffs for the fifth consecutive year.

CC plays host to the Miners in a 7 p.m. (MT) match under the lights at Washburn Field, but will be keeping a close eye on a pair of other results involving other contenders on Thursday.

As long as UAB doesn't pull off an upset at the University of Memphis that night, and East Carolina University can win or tie at Marshall University, the Tigers can clinch a spot in the C-USA tournament with a victory.

CC bounced back from last Friday's 2-1 loss at Marshall to  win, 3-2, at East Carolina on Sunday and improve to 8-6-4 overall. The Tigers, Pirates and Thundering Herd all are 4-5-1 in C-USA play, good for 13 points and a three-way tie for seventh place in the league standings.

At 4-4-2, sixth-place UAB has 14 points and can clinch the conference's last of six playoff berths with a victory at second-place Memphis this week. If the Blazers lose, it opens the door for Colorado College, ECU and Marshall to pass them. And, based on last weekend's head-to-head results, the Tigers would win a tiebreaker with East Carolina but lose one with the Herd.

UTEP, meanwhile, dropped out of playoff contention after losing twice on the road last weekend. The 11th-place Miners, now 10-8 overall, are 3-7 in Conference USA after falling 1-0 at ECU on Friday and 3-0 at Marshall on Sunday.
