Austin College avenged its loss to Colorado College in early January by defeating the Tigers, 80-61, on Saturday afternoon.
CC lost for the third time in four games and slipped into a tie with Southwestern University in for fourth place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's Western Division standings.
Nick Rose scored a game-high 23 points to pace CC, the 13th time this season he has scored 20 or more points in a game. Brady Ohlsen added 10 points and eight rebounds.
Rose became the 28th Tiger to score 400 or more points in a single season and his current total of 410 points ranks as the 26th-highest single-season total in the program's history.
The Tigers stayed close during the first 13 minutes, tying the score at 20-20 when Rose scored on a layup with 9:24 remaining in the first half. Ohlsen's bucket pulled Colorado College to within 25-22 with 6:44 to go, but Austin outscored CC 17-5 down the stretch to build a 42-27 advantage after 20 minutes.
The Kangaroos knocked down five of 14 three-point attempts during the first half while the Tigers made just one of 10 attempts. CC also committed 12 turnovers, including seven during the final nine minutes, to allow Austin to pull away.
After Rose drained a three-pointer to begin the second half, the Kangaroos went on a 21-2 run to build a 63-32 advantage with 13:28 to play.
Ryan Harty scored seven of his 13 points during a 19-5 run that trimmed CC's deficit to 17 points with 6:32 remaining, but the Tigers were never able to get closer than 16 points the rest of the way.
Kola Alade led Austin with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
CC slipped to 11-9 overall and 6-6 in the SCAC. The Kangaroos improved to 16-5 overall and 9-3 in conference play.
The top four teams from each division earn a spot in the SCAC's eight-team tournament which will be played at Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., Feb. 26-28.
Colorado College visits the University of Dallas on Sunday for its final non-conference game of the season.
