Denied reason to rightfully celebrate its league title a night earlier, the University of Denver lived up to its No. 1 national ranking at the World Arena on Saturday.

The Pioneers exploded for the first six goals of the contest – three in each of the first two periods – and coasted to a 7-3 victory over Colorado College in the teams' 2009-10 regular-season finale.

With the triumph, DU avenged Friday's 2-1 loss to the 15th-ranked Tigers in Denver and claimed possession of the Gold Pan for the first time since 2005-06 by virtue of a 2-1-1 edge in four games between the teams this campaign.

CC, 18-15-3 overall after the loss, finishes sixth in the WCHA standings with a 12-13-3 record in conference play and will open post-season play with a best-of-three first-round playoff series at fifth-seeded University of Minnesota Duluth next weekend.

Kyle Ostrow scored twice and set up a tally by Jesse Martin in Friday's rout as Denver improved to 25-7-4 overall and 19-5-4 in the WCHA. It was Ostrow's tally at 5:50 of the opening frame that launched the assault.

Colorado College got a pair of goals from senior right wing and team captain Mike Testwuide, who now has 20 red lighters for the season. Junior winger Tyler Johnson also lit the lamp for the Tigers while Martin, Joe Colborne and Rhett Rakhashani each collected a goal and an assist for DU. Colborne struck for what proved to be the game winner at 1:19 of the second period.  

Marc Cheverie made 33 saves in net for the Pioneers, who fired 35 shots on CC goaltenders Joe Howe and Tyler O'Brien. Freshman Howe, who started, left the game with an undisclosed injury after the first period. O'Brien, a junior, steered aside 23 Denver attempts including 16 in the middle stanza.
