If Colorado College is counting on offensive balance this season, Saturday's exhibition victory over the United States Under-18 Team provided a nice dose of encouragement.
Five different players representing all four classes found the back of the net, 11 recorded at least a point, and the Tigers struck four times at even strength while prevailing by a 5-0 count at the World Arena.
CC finished with a 43-18 advantage in shots on target as all three of the team's goaltenders saw action in the shutout. Sophomore
Josh Thorimbert started and made 14 saves before giving way to junior
Joe Howe midway through the second period. Freshman
Courtney Lockwood relieved Howe for the final 7:57 of play.
Senior forwards
David Civitarese and
Nick Dineen each contributed a goal and an assist, while sophomore left wing
Jaden Schwartz helped set up a pair of tallies for the second time in as many outings this preseason.
Junior defenseman
Mike Boivin, freshman winger
Scott Wamsganz and sophomore left wing
Dakota Eveland also scored for the Tigers, who officially open their 2011-12 campaign at home next week with a two-game WCHA series against Bemidji State University.
Boivin's red lighter, a screen shot that stood up as the game winner, came just 4:50 into the contest with the teams skating four on four. Jaden and
Rylan Schwartz drew the assists.
Jared Rutledge made 38 saves for Team USA, which dropped to 3-4 two weeks into its 50-game exhibition tour. Colorado College won for the sixth time in seven all-time meetings between the teams.
