Box Score With the game tied 55-55 and less than two seconds remaining, the Colorado College men's basketball team used its home court advantage to earn its first win of the season.
With 1.4 seconds left in the game, sophomore
Jake Tramutolo sank a three-pointer from the right side to give the Tigers a thrilling 58-55 victory over Southwestern University on Friday evening in Reid Gymnasium.
Tramutolo scored a career-high 14 points with 12 of his points coming from the three-point range and the other two coming from a pair of free throws. He also grabbed a career-high three steals to aid the Tiger defense.
Senior
Jeremiah Waters led CC with a team-high 15 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore
Ryan Milne chipped in nine points and dished out a team-high eight assists.
Southwestern took an early 2-0 lead and had possession of the ball, when Milne forced a Pirate turnover and scored CC's first field goal of the game with 18:07 remaining in the first half to tie the score. Milne's layup helped spark a 10-0 run for the Tigers and take a 10-2 advantage with 14:38 remaining in the half.
Junior
Ian Rewoldt made a layup with 5:39 remaining in the half to give the Tigers their largest lead of the game at 26-15, but the Pirates answered back with a 14-5 run to pull within two points and enter halftime down, 31-29.
Colorado College and Southwestern each shot an identical 39.3 field goal percentage on 11-of-28 shooting during the first half, which also included each team hitting five field goals from long range. However, the Tigers two-point advantage came from the charity stripe as it hit four free throws to the Pirates lone pair.
CC led 40-35 after a pair of made free throws by Milne with 13:12 remaining in the game, but Southwestern went on a 15-3 run to take its largest lead of the game at 51-43 with 5:52 left in the game.
The Tigers kept their composure and tied the game at 51-51 after Tramutolo sank a pair of free throws with 2:56 remaining. The Pirates answered back with a three-pointer from Daniel Mataya to take the lead, but Waters came right back with a three to tie the game for the fourth time with 1:05 remaining.
The teams each traded a free throw to make the score 55-55 with 11 seconds remaining. CC gained possession of the ball off of a missed free throw by Southwestern's Michael Cantu and called a timeout with six ticks left on the clock. The Tigers returned from the timeout and found Tramutolo open on the top right side of the arc where he sank the three-pointer with less than two seconds remaining in the game to lift CC to its first win this season.
Colorado College improved to 1-3 on the season and 1-0 in SCAC action, while Southwestern dropped to 0-7 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.
The Tigers continues conference play as they host Trinity University on Saturday at 8 p.m. in Reid Gymnasium.
