An opportunity to sustain momentum

CC looks to prolong winning ways in home-ice series with Seawolves

View complete weekly press release »

Still tingling from an exciting and emotional sudden-death victory over its archrival last Friday night, Colorado College resumes action at home this week against a team it competed against six times in four different cities during the 2010-11 season.

The Tigers, ranked No. 6 in the latest national polls, play host to the University of Alaska Anchorage in a two-game WCHA series at the World Arena.

Faceoff is 7:37 (MT) Friday and 7:07 p.m. Saturday.

With its recent 4-3 overtime triumph over the University of Denver, a replay of which will air as a CBS Sports Network Encore Presentation at 2:30 pm (MT) Saturday, Dec. 10, CC improved to 8-4 overall and 6-4 in league play.

Alaska Anchorage is 5-9-2 overall but just 2-9-1 in the WCHA after losing twice (5-2 and 4-1) at home to the University of North Dakota last week.

While fourth-place Colorado College is 21-3 in 24 previous encounters against UAA at the World Arena, the Seawolves have managed to claim an overtime victory in each of their last two visits – on Nov. 29, 2009 (3-2) and Nov. 26, 2010 (4-3).

Friday's series opener marks the 72nd all-time contest between the squads in a rivalry that started on Jan. 5, 1984. CC leads the overall series by a 51-17-3 margin after beating the Seawolves, 4-2, in the play-in game of the WCHA Final Five last March. In addition to its sudden-death victory at the CSWA last November, Alaska Anchorage also swept the Tigers (4-1 and 2-1) at Sullivan Arena in mid-January and dropped a 4-3 decision to them at a tournament in Fairbanks the first month of the '10-11 season.

Tiger Bites: Nick Dineen, Tim Hall, Joe Howe, Eamonn McDermott, Michael Morin and Archie Skalbeck volunteered to have their heads shaved last Sunday (Dec. 4) at a fundraiser for 10-year-old Garrett Niles. A member of the squirt-level Terminators team from the Woodland Park Hockey Association, NIles recently was diagnosed with stage-3 lymphoma cancer. The event, held at Edge Salon and Spa, helped generate more than $8,000 in donations toward his family's anticipated medical bills.
