This time, the Tigers have no one to blame but themselves.
Colorado College coughed up a six-point lead during the final 3:47 and handed a 66-62 victory to a determined Southwestern University team on Sunday afternoon.
The loss extend CC's skid to five games and the Tigers now need two victories next weekend and a loss by Trinity against the same Pirates to earn a share of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's Western Division title.
Unlike Colorado College's 107-84 victory over Southwestern on Jan. 2 when it shot 60 percent from the floor during the first half, the Tigers made only 10 of 35 field-goal attempts during the opening 20 minutes and trailed by 13 points with 6:21 remaining.
Nick Rose capped a 14-6 run with two of his game-high 29 points that cut Southwestern's lead to 33-28 with 1:33 left in the opening half. However, the Pirates caught a huge break when freshman point guard Ryan Milne was called for his fourth foul 22 seconds later. Milne fouled out early the second half.
Colorado College took its first lead since the opening minutes of the game when Rose buried a three-pointer nearly seven minutes into the second half, and the Tigers led 60-54 after he buried back-to-back long-range shots.
Meanwhile, CC's next five possessions resulted in three turnovers, a missed shot and a miss on the front end of a one-and-one.
Southwestern tied the game on consecutive three-point shots by Michael Cantu, and then took the lead for good when the senior guard Nick Caputo scored two of his team-leading 15 points with 1:24 remaining.
The Pirates made two of four free throws during the final 10 seconds to salt the game away.
Brady Ohlsen recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 12 points and a season-high 16 rebounds. Ohlsen needs 13 more rebounds to break the school record of 739 held by Elliott Broadnax (1996-2000).
Rose became the sixth player in program history to reach the 1,400 point mark, finishing the contest with 1,426. With four three-point baskets, he also became the seventh player to make 150 in his career.
Colorado College plays host to Hendrix College and Millsaps College on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
