Despite missing 15 games during the middle of the season,
Jaden Schwartz obviously has earned a great deal of respect around the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
Schwartz, a freshman left winger who has averaged nearly a point and a half per contest, on Thursday was named to both the All-WCHA Third Team and All-WCHA Rookie Team after an annual balloting of coaches, team captains and media personnel from around the league.
The native of WIlcox, Saskatchewan, heads into this week's first-round WCHA playoff series against the University of Wisconsin with 33 points (13g,20a) in just 23 outings for the Tigers. He factored in on the game-winning goal in four of CC's first eight victories of the season, scoring a pair and assisting on two more, and has collected at least one point in 17 of his 23 appearances.
Schwartz recorded four assists in a game on two occasions – in victories over Denver (9-2) at home and Michigan Tech (7-3) on the road – and has posted nine multiple-point performances overall.
The WCHA also announced its annual All-Academic Team on Thursday, with 10 Colorado College players receiving that distinction. They are, in alphabetical order, junior defenseman
Ted Behrend and
Arthur Bidwill, junior center
David Civitarese, junior defenseman
Gabe Guentzel, junior left wing
Tim Hall, sophomore winger
Andrew Hamburg, sophomore goalie
Joe Howe, senior defenseman Ryan Lowery, senior goalie
