Colorado College extended its season-opening winning streak to six matches with a hard-fought 5-4 victory over Colby College on Monday afternoon, but suffered its first setback later in the day against Hope College.
Deanna Thirkell, Jordan Evans and Erin Yamamoto each were involved in a pair of victories as the Tigers recorded their third one-point win of the season .
CC held a 2-1 lead after doubles competition thanks to a clutch performance by Katie Patterson and Yamamoto. The Tigers' No. 2 team kept their perfect record intact with a 9-8 (7-3) triumph over Sarah Wiener and Kathryn Vergeyle.
Thirkell and Evans earned Colorado College's first point by claiming an 8-4 decision at No.1 doubles for their third consecutive victory.
Evans evened her individual record at 3-3 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles, and Thirkell pulled the Tigers to within a point of winning the match by winning the No. 1 contest by a count of 6-2, 6-7 (3), 6-0.
The Mules, however, won the next three points to tie the match, and all eyes shifted to the No. 6 contest between Yamamoto and Mckenzie Love.
After dropping the first set, Yamamoto rallied to win the final two and pull out the 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory and keep CC's perfect record intact.
In the nightcap, Thirkell and Evans gave the Tigers an early lead with an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles, but the CC dropped the next two points to trail heading into singles play for just the second time this season.
The Flying Dutch put the match away by winning five of six singles matches.
Evans provided Colorado College's only other point with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles.
The Tigers will enjoy a day off before returning to action on Wednesday against SUNY New Paltz.
