Colorado College improved to 2-0 with a 7-2 victory against Colorado State University-Pueblo on Sunday afternoon at the Burghart Tennis Courts on the CC campus.
Jordan Evans sealed the Tigers' seventh consecutive victory over the ThunderWolves by claiming a 6-1, 6-2 decision at No.2 singles against Andrea Ortiz.
“Jordan played a near perfect singles match to clinch the win,” head coach Perry Wright said. “She played very smart and demonstrated a more mature game, and was in total control throughout the match.”
After taking two of three points in doubles play, Colorado College won five of six singles contests in straight sets.
The Tigers' four first-year players won all four of their encounters to improve their combined record to 7-1. Caila Criss picked up the first victory of her career by holding off Kellie Manes by a 7-5, 6-2 count.
Katie Patterson remained perfect on the season by combining with Erin Yamamoto for an 8-6 triumph at No. 3 doubles, and then coasting to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles.
Maddy Bush improved to 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles, while Sarah Backer maintained the same record with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 6
Morgan Forsyth provided the only two points for the Thuderwolves, edging Deanna Thirkell 2-6, 7-5 (10-5) an No. 1 singles after teaming with Ortiz for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles.
“We had the early momentum by winning two of three doubles matches,” Wright said. “All in all, we are happy to start are year off in such a positive way, and hope we can continue as we play to more RMAC opponents this week.”
