Evans and Thirkell dominate in loss at Austin

Jordan Evans and Deanna Thirkell provided three points for the Tigers, but Austin College pulled out a pair of tight singles matches to claim a 5-3 victory on Sunday morning.

Playing singles first, Thirkell tied the match with a 6-4, 6-0 triumph at No. 1 singles, her seventh win in the last 10 matches. 

The Tigers took a 2-1 lead after Evans won her 10th individual match of the season with a convincing 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles. It marked the seventh time this season Thirkell and Evans both won.  

The Kangaroos won the final three individual points by claiming a 6-3, 1-6, 10-7 decision at No. 4 singles and prevailing 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 at No. 5. 

CC stayed alive when Thirkell and Evans won for the fifth time in their last six matches by posting an 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles, but Austin clinched the match with an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles. The No. 3 match was not played. 

The Tigers, who slipped to 9-5 overall, tune up for the SCAC Championships by playing host to 2011 Front Range Classic next weekend.
