Box Score Colorado College let a chance to move into a tie for first place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's West Division slip away on Friday night with a 66-58 loss at Millsaps College, the last-place team in the East.
Sophomore guard
Ryan Milne poured in a game-high 26 points, but the Majors played what was arguably their best game of the year and snapped the Tigers' three-game conference winning streak.
If it weren't for 17 missed free throws, Millsaps might have blown CC out of the Hangar Dome.
Despite falling behind by 10 points early in the first half, the Tigers came roaring back to take a 25-20 lead on the strength of a 22-7 run that was capped off by a Milne 3-pointer with 5:13 to play.
Millsaps tied the game at 27-27 when Taylor Meades drained a three-pointer with 2:25 to play and took the lead for good when Brian Merkel sank a pair of free throws five seconds before the break.
Meades and Nick Cortese connected on a pair of long-range shots as the Majors opened the second half with a 12-2 run that gave the hosts a 41-29 lead with a little more than 15 minutes remaining.
CC clawed its way to within 55-50 when Milne drained his second trey with 4:21 to play, but like every other time the Tigers closed the gap, Millsaps answered with just enough points to keep a somewhat comfortable lead.
Meades knocked down four of his six 3-point attempts and led the Majors with 18 points. Cortese finished with 15 points, while Ryan Berger grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
Chris Lesnansky had 12 points for Colorado College, but no one else had more than six.
The Tigers, who slipped to 8-7 overall and 5-3 in the SCAC, will look to rebound on Sunday when they visit Rhodes College in Memphis.
