Box Score Colorado College held conference leader Birmingham-Southern College to a season-low 53 points, but that wasn't enough as the Tigers fell to the Panthers, 53-42, on Friday evening in Reid Gymnasium.
Starting point guard
Ryan Milne, a leading candidate for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year award, was sidelined with an injury he suffered earlier in the week. Without Milne, Colorado College struggled to find its offensive rhythm, shooting a season-low 28.3 percent from the floor.
Freshman
Chris Lesnansky led the Tigers with 12 points and tied for the team-high with six rebounds. Junior
Ian Rewoldt ran the offense dishing out team-high five assists and also added nine points and six rebounds.
BSC controlled much of the first half and held a 10-7 lead midway through the half. Colorado College tied the game at 10-10 when sophomore
Daniel Webb dished a pass to freshman
Ryan Kell, who sank a three-pointer with 9:33 left on the clock.
The Panthers regained control of the game off of a couple made free-throws by Jasen Jonus. BSC held onto the lead the rest of the way and went into halftime with a slim 23-21 lead.
The Tigers began the second half on a 7-6 run to pull within a point of the Panthers off of a layup by Rewoldt with 16:43 left in the game, but that was as close as CC got as BSC closed out the game on a 24-14 run to take the 53-42 victory from the Tigers.
Despite the loss, Colorado College held Birmingham-Southern to its lowest shooting percentage this season, shooting 34.0 percent from the floor and 15.4 percent from long range.
The Panthers were led by Zac Richards with 14 points and Griffin Schamp with 10. Caleb Lee paced the defense with 10 rebounds.
Colorado College dropped to 8-9 on the season and 5-5 in SCAC play, while BSC improved to 17-1 this season and 9-1 in the conference.
The Tigers play host to Oglethorpe University on Sunday at 1 p.m.
