In less than 24 hours this fall, the CC women's tennis team gave head coach Todd Doebler reasons to expect strong performances when competition resumes next spring.
The Tigers bounced back from a 9-0 loss to The University of Texas-Permian Basin to fall 6-3 to Montana State University-Billings the next day.
Two victories in that final dual against the NCAA Division II foes showed the grit on display.
Junior No. 1 singles player
Katie Patterson pulled out a 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 win while freshman No. 6 singles player
Abby Mietchen prevailed 6-2, 5-7, 10-8. Junior
Maddy Bush and freshman
Caroline Cary won in No. 2 doubles, 8-4.
“Permian Basin was much improved from last year when we beat them,” Doebler said. “Maddy and Caroline played very good doubles and Katie and Abby won two matches that went into a tiebreaker and could have gone either way. As a team, the women did a really good job coming back to play more consistent and better tennis the next day. That was good to see.”
Now, it will be a matter of continuing the team's training.
“A lot of them worked hard over the summer,” Doebler said. “When they continue that training this (school) year, they will be ready for the spring.”
