Senior midfielder Grace Maloney scored three goals late in the second half to help Colorado College pull away for a 15-7 victory over Colorado Mesa University in a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.

Playing through blowing snow and gusty winds during the final 30 minutes, Maloney's strikes were part of a 6-0 run that put an end to the Mavericks' valiant comeback effort which began after the Tigers scored the first five goals.

Sophomore attacker Madeline Scherer gave CC a 5-0 lead with 9:56 remaining in the first half, but freshman midfielder Rachel Sutton found the net three times as Colorado Mesa scored six of the next nine goals to pull to within 8-6 with 18:53 to play.

Scherer gave the Tigers a three-point lead and then Maloney scored three times in 61 seconds to put the Tigers back in control. Maloney scored on a free-position shot with 10:25 to go, added an unassisted tally 50 seconds later, and then needed just 11 seconds to give CC a 12-6 advantage after winning the draw control.

Junior midfielder Kate Krieger, senior attacker Leslie Jacoby and freshman midfielder Dylan Voneiff scored during the final seven minutes as Colorado College closed out the game on a 3-1 run.

Maloney finished with four goals and an assist, giving her at least five points in five consecutive games. Junior attacker Ellie Cole set up three goals and scored another to help the Tigers build a 6-3 lead after 30 minutes.

Junior defender Nancy Makuch and sophomore defender Krysti Kiesel each grabbed four ground balls and recorded one draw control.

Junior goalkeeper Abby Fink made eight saves and lowered her goals-against average to 7.36. Sophomore goalie Lauren Wells stopped 10 shots for CMU.

CC finished with a 35-19 advantage in total shots and a 26-17 edge in ground balls. The Mavericks won 13 of 24 draw controls, but committed six more turnovers.

The Tigers, who are alone atop the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference standings with a 4-0 record, improved to 10-2 overall. CMU slipped to 3-9.

Colorado College squares off with Fort Lewis College on Sunday at 1 p.m.
