Colorado College makes its second trip to Greeley, Colo., in a span of eight days when the Tigers take on the University of Northern Colorado in non-league action at Jackson Stadium on Friday night.
CC enters the contest with a 1-0-1 record after defeating the University of Denver (1-0) and playing the University of Colorado to a scoreless draw last weekend in the 2012 Colorado Cup. UNC, a member of the Big Sky Conference, lost to the Buffs (3-0) and the Pioneers (2-1).
Colorado College has won all 14 previous encounters with Northern Colorado and has outscored the Bears 42-2. The Tigers recorded a 1-0 victory over UNC in their only previous meeting in Greeley in 2003. CC, which has posted 12 shutouts in the rivalry and never allowed more than one goal in a game, prevailed 2-0 at Stewart Field in the most recent encounter two years ago.
Junior forward
Lynn Froetscher scored the first game winner of her collegiate career in last Friday's 1-0 victory over Denver, but it wasn't the first time she was involved in a deciding goal. In her collegiate debut, she set up the game-winning tally during a 1-0 victory against the University of Dayton in the 2010 season opener. Froetscher also assisted on the GWG in a 1-0 triumph over UCF later during that 2010 season. Of the four career goals she's been a part of, three have been game winners.
Senior forward
Brittney Lyman, who leads the team with eight shots, needs only one goal to become the 13th player in program history to reach the 20-goal plateau. Lyman also is just a point shy of tying for 19th place on the program's all-time points list with 44. Freshman goalkeeper
Kate Scheele (Seattle, WA) became the first rookie goaltender since Geneva Sills in 2005 to record back-to-back shutouts to begin a season.
Northern Colorado mustered only one goal in two games last weekend, a tally by sophomore forward Juliana Grover during Sunday's 2-1 loss to Denver. Senior midfielder JJ Wykstra, who scored a team-high five goals in 2011, was held to three shots. Junior midfielder Chandler Guetz launched five shots, none of which were on goal. Senior goalkeeper Natalie D'Adamio, who played all 180 minutes, recorded a 2.50 goals-against average and a .667 saves percentage.
TopDrawerSoccer.com listed CC at No. 42 in its weekly Tournament 64 rankings. It marks the second straight week that the Tigers have appeared in the poll, which attempts to project qualifiers for the NCAA playoffs. Updated rankings are released every Monday throughout the season. Colorado College, the highest ranked among the state's five Division I programs, is one of three Conference USA teams on this week's list. UCF is No. 28, while Memphis is No. 35.
After three consecutive games against opponents from Colorado, the Tigers face a pair from neighboring Utah. Colorado College plays host to the University of Utah on Thursday, Aug. 30, and then travels to Provo to face BYU on Saturday, Sept. 1.
