Ella Ashouri of the Colorado College women's soccer program has been named both Offensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week as announced by the Mountain West earlier this afternoon.
Ashouri wasted no time getting her collegiate career kicked into gear, as she scored two goals in her debut on Wednesday against Creighton. Ashouri became the first Tiger in program history to score two goals in their collegiate debut, and she even added an assist on the scoresheet as she provided the helper on Kate Pulley's game-winning goal early in the second half.
On the weekend, Ashouri would add a third goal when she was given the honor to take the second half penalty kick that was awarded to the Tigers when junior captain Finley Schoenbeck was tripped inside the 18. After a brief review, the call was confirmed and Ashouri buried it to the keepers right, giving her three goals and an assist through the first two matches of the season.
"Ella had a standout opening weekend," said CC Head Women's Soccer Coach Keri Sanchez. "She is doing well adjusting to college level play and learning how her new teammates play. It was fun to watch her grow in confidence and impact each game."
The Tigers will look to take their winning ways on the road for the first time this season, as they embark on the longest road trip of the season. The first stop is on Thursday when the CC takes on UTSA in San Antonio, before finishing the week's slate on Sunday afternoon against Oklahoma in Norman.
