CC sustains momentum vs. Hastings

By the time Colorado College got around to the doubles competition on Sunday, the Lady Tigers had this contest in the bag and assured itself of improving to 5-6 for the season.

CC dominated in singles in its final home appearance of the season, winning five of six matches to clinch what ultimately became an 8-1 victory over Division II Hastings College at Burghart Courts.

Combined wth Saturday's 6-3 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference triumph over Southwestern University, the performance helped the Tigers build momentum and position themselves for a favorable seeding at the fast-approaching SCAC championships in San Antonio, Texas, at the end of April.

The team's top two players – sophomore Mary Edman and junior Katie Patterson – got the team off to a great start against the visiting Broncos. Patterson finished off Alexis Parde in short order, dominating by a score of 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles while Edman improved to 6-5 for the season with a 7-5, 6-1 thumping of Ellie Clinch at No. 1.

When Maggie Harwood (6-3, 7-5), Caila Criss (6-1, 6-4) and Rachel Severson (6-2, 6-1) followed suit in straight sets at No. 4, 5 and 6, respectively, doubles became an afterthought – at least for Colorado College, which swept easily including an dominating 8-1 win at No. 3 by junior Criss and freshman Caroline Cary.
