Second half dooms Tigers in loss to Bowdoin

Box Score Colorado College gave No. 8 Bowdoin College a run for its money for 30 minutes, but the Polar Bears pulled away during the second half to record a 14-3 victory on Sunday at Ryan Field.

After falling behind 4-0 a little more than 12 minutes into the contest, the Tigers used goals by junior attacker Madeline Scherer and senior midfielder Ginna Oates to chop their deficit in half with 4:28 to play before the break.

Unfortunately, the Polar Bears used a goal by Taylor Wilson with 1:48 remaining to re-gain the momentum, and they broke the game open by scoring three times during the opening 5:04 of the second half.

Scherer struck for a second time to stop Bowdoin's 6-0 run, but the hosts closed out the scoring with four more goals, three of which came during the final 1:26.

Senior goalkeeper Abby Fink stopped 12 shots for Colorado College, the ninth time this season she finished a game with double-digit saves. Senior midfielder Anna Crosby grabbed a team-high three ground balls.

The Polar Bears finished with a 35-14 advantage in total shots, and a 23-16 advantage in ground balls.

The Bowdoin attack was led by senior co-captain Carolyn Gorajek, who finished with three goals and four assists. Jordan Smith also scored three times, while Emma Beecher and Wilson added two apiece.

Tara Connolly made four saves for the Polar Bears before giving way to Isabel Sippel with 6:50 remaining in the game.

Bowdoin (12-2) extended its winning streak to six games and finished the year with a 5-0 mark against non-conference opponents.

The Tigers (5-10) play their final home game of the season against the University of Dallas on Saturday, April 27, at 11 a.m.
